07 / 2009 - fully automated palletisation for Rasco Bitumentechnik GmbH

Due to wider range of products, increasing demands and industrial safety reasons a fully automated palletisation became necessary. Because of it’s flexibility and compact contruction, Rasco Bitumentechnik decided to invest in a palletisation-robot from Chronos Richardson (type RP 1200), a new generation bend-arm robot.

This innovative palletisation-systems with an integrated patent gripper technology, enables an exact positioning of the product on a pallet. A further outstanding feature of the robot is the modular-, compact- and low maintenance- design. Served by two filling lines, the RP 1200 is able to palletise up to 500 drums per hour (drums from 5 – 35 kg possible). The system includes a magazine for empty pallets and a shuttle system on rails for loaded and empty pallets. In addition, the patented gripper applies paper and plastic cover-sheets to the pallets.

A great challenge for the constructing engineers was, to rotate and place the chaotic incoming drums on a pallet, so that the attached labels on the drums are proper readable after palletisation. For this purpose Chronos Richardson designed a adjustment-unit, which places the handle of each drum in the same position and turns the drums with labels in front position. After this the bend-arm robot takes each drum and places it on a pallet, with label in front position for a higher sales-promotion. The RP 1200 robot was delivered and put into operation in mach 2009.
